A story I wrote for my English class. It was a picture prompt. See if you can catch the two references that I transported from my personal life into the story. Hint main character... Its hard for my to read for two reasons. One the grammar is atrocious. Two the dialogue is almost laughable but I had to include it...
Henry Gale, a tall black male in his early thirties, wakes up to the screaching of his radio. As he starts up his shower he notices a calmness in the air. A calmness that is rare in the crowded city of Memphis Tennessee. Before he walks out of the door of Hotel Clark he grabs his favorite hat and proceeds to walk down the street, this is when he meets Tom. Although this was not a friendly meeting.
Tom and his friends were walking down a black neighborhood looking for trouble.
"Look at this!"
"Lets go to work."
"Mornin' boys." Henry tips his hat and smiles nervously to the oncoming teenagers.
"We dont treat blacks kindly 'round these parts." said Tim, a young, white and handsome looking boy in his mid teens.
"Believe me son I aint lookin' for trouble, just on my way to Rex's. Ya know the place on Beale Street?"
"I don't want your morning routine, I just want your hat."
"My hat? Why this has been in my family for years It was past down to me just last year. Why would you ever want such a raggedy old thing?"
"I want the hat!"
"I have to be going. I mustn't be late."
After this, is when the chaos began. Tim and his band of trusty teens proceeded to tackle Henry, steal the money from his pocket, his watch and his beloved hat.
Shaken up, Henry, only minutes after being mugged, stands up and gets back on his feet. He then goes back to the hotel where he spends the rest of the day recovering.
The next day Henry is annoyingly awakened again by his screeching radio. He takes his regular every morning shower and makes his regular every morning coffee and then heads downstairs where he is greeted by the noisy streets of Memphis. As he cautiously walks down the street to Rex Billiard Hall (for business) he notices the calmness in the air that was apparent the day before was suddenly absent that morning. It was like the events that took place the day before altered the atmosphere a day later.
The Billiard Hall was not very crowded when Henry arrived. A few black males lounging around, not many. So it was easy for Henry to immediately notice a young, white, handsome man leaning against a post that resembled the same kid that mugged him the day before. Wearing Henrys prized hat. For the black people that were lounging around it was very easy to see that Henry was angry. So when he approached Tim, the loungers followed.
"Give me my hat!"
"Who do you think you are!?!"
"GIVE ME MY HAT!"
"I don't know what your-"
Suddenly mid sentence out of anger Henry charged at Tim. This caused a chain reaction of fights between Tim's posse and the loungers. Within minutes the police came and arrested Henry and the guys who were just sitting outside of Rex's. They were charged with Assault.
For years to come Henry Gale would be known as one of the leaders of the revolution. Based on bad behavior and other unknown acts that Henry started in jail. He was found dead in his jail cell in 1945.
----- This is not a quote, however this is a true story that is worthy of noting. Today after practice I was having a conversation with Robert and he was trying to convince me that he invented the word Morpheus... He was not joking...

That's ridiculous. I came up with the word morpheous when I was just a child. I asked grandma for more nut I had had a lisp. When one day I stated, More pheous, instead of More Phyllis.
